SAFE RETURN OF IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION AND CONTINUITY OF SERVICES
Milford Exempted Village School District was fortunate to begin the 2020-2021 school year with a five-day-a-week in-person option for families, as well as an option for an all-online program called Eagle Online. Our Return to Learning Plan was shared with our community in the fall of 2020 and has been updated frequently as guidance from the state and local health departments changed. Milford's plan for the 2021-2022 school year is to one again have students in person five days a week. The district will not offer Eagle Online for the 2021-2022 school year.
EXTENDED LEARNING PLAN
During Governor DeWine’s Feb. 9, 2021 press conference, he asked Ohio schools and districts to work with their communities to help students advance and make up for any learning that may have been lost or delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic. He requested that schools and districts design plans to meet the needs of students that could include, but are not limited to, ending the school year later than scheduled, beginning the new year early or extending the school day. Summer programs, tutoring or remote options also could be considered. The governor asked schools and districts to provide their plans to the public and the General Assembly no later than April 1.
As an administrative team, through extensive conversations with teachers, staff, and families throughout the school year, we have developed our Extended Learning Plan. In the plan, we discuss our instructional model for the 2020-2021 school year, internal data that is utilized by the district, and details about the extended learning plan. We know our in-person and online learners benefited from our teachers utilizing similar curriculum, resources and materials in both of those settings. The commitment and dedication to the whole child also included a focus on mental health and social emotional outreach.
The Extended Learning Plan submitted to the State highlights our plan to provide additional academic support, social-emotional learning supports, professional development for staff, and development of an after-school programs.

USE OF ARP ESSER FUNDS
On Thursday, March 11, 2021, the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act was signed into law - it includes $122 billion for the ARP Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ARP ESSER) Fund. Funds are provided to State educational agencies and school districts to help safely reopen and sustain the safe operation of schools and address the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on students. Milford Exempted Village School District's plans to the ESSER funds include:
- Offer summer school for high school students needing credit recovery
- Develop individual student learning plans for targeted instruction for grades K-8
- Develop social emotional learning supports
- Develop professional development opportunities for staff
- Develop an after-school program to support individual strengths
