Kindergarten Entrance Age Updated

At the September Board meeting, the Board approved an update to Kindergarten Entrance Age Policy JEB. Beginning with the 2024-2025 school year, Milford Schools will require that a child be 5 years old on or before August 1st in order to enroll in Kindergarten for that school year.

This change has been made to align our practices with neighboring school districts and to prioritize the whole child readiness of our young learners. By adopting this new start date, we aim to provide a more consistent and developmentally appropriate experience for our Kindergarten students, ensuring they have the foundational skills and readiness needed for a successful educational journey.

This means that when Kindergarten Registration opens in early 2024, it will be for students who will be 5 on or before August 1, 2024. We understand that this change will impact some families in the district, and want to provide as much notice as possible regarding the change. Our primary goal remains to provide the best possible education and support for all children in our community.
