The Milford Board of Education held a regularly scheduled meeting on April 16, 2026, to conduct board business, including policy approvals and district updates.

Celebrating the Arts

The Board recognized featured student artists from Pattison Elementary and Milford Middle School,

Director of Fine Arts Josh Kauffman shared several highlights across Milford’s arts programs.

The high school production of Water for Elephants recently concluded with sold-out performances, showcasing student talent both on stage and behind the scenes.

Looking ahead, Milford Middle School presented Seussical Jr., and the annual Fine Arts Fair took  place May 1–2 at Milford High School, featuring more than 1,000 pieces of student artwork from across the district.

Kauffman also introduced an upcoming board recommendation for hiring Milford High School’s next Director of Bands, Jacob Carpenter, a Milford graduate returning to lead the program after significant success at the national level.

Pattison Elementary Update

Pattison Elementary Principal Rob Dunn shared updates on building initiatives and school culture.

A new playground project will move forward this spring and summer, funded entirely through PTO efforts and community support. The design process included input from both students and staff to ensure the space reflects how students learn and play.

The school also continues to emphasize positive behavior through its PBIS program, offering incentives and experiences that recognize students for being respectful, responsible problem solvers.

Milford Middle School Update

Milford Middle School Principal Todd Wells highlighted a successful first year in the new building, calling it a “new beginning” for students and staff.

Students shared feedback on the building, noting appreciation for the modern space, improved scheduling, and expanded opportunities, while also offering input for continued improvements.

Athletic Boosters Update

Athletic Booster President, Chris Hamm, from the Milford Athletic Boosters shared an overview of their work and future direction.

Since 2000, the organization has contributed more than $3 million to support Milford athletics.

This year, the Boosters introduced several new initiatives, including:

  • A pay-to-play assistance program to reduce financial barriers for student-athletes

  • Expanded community engagement and communication efforts

  • Improved systems for fundraising, budgeting, and operations

Future priorities include facility improvements, enhanced student-athlete experiences, and stronger connections with youth programs and alumni.

Mission Moment: Student Leadership in Mental Health

The Board recognized Milford High School student Grayson for his work with the Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation’s Youth Advisory Council.

PowerSchool Update

District leaders shared a statement provided by PowerSchool regarding recent bugs and errors experienced by families when using the platform.

The statement acknowledged user frustrations and communicated that a recent app update has addressed the majority of reported issues. Families are encouraged to ensure their app is updated to the latest version for the best experience.

Treasurer’s Financial Update

Treasurer Doug Ackermann reported that district finances remain strong through March.

Highlights include:

  • Approximately $2.3 million in investment earnings year to date

  • A current positive variance compared to initial deficit projections

  • Administrative costs at 7.29%, well below the state’s 15% requirement

Transportation Update

The district shared an update on transportation efficiency following recent changes.

Key highlights:

  • Increased bus capacity utilization across all tiers

  • Eight bus routes eliminated through improved efficiency

  • Continued evaluation of routing and scheduling to balance cost savings with reasonable ride times for students

District leaders emphasized that while efficiencies are improving, student ride time and overall experience remain a priority.

The Board approved routine financial items, contracts, and donations, continuing to support district operations and programs. The next Board of Education meeting will occur, Thursday, May 21 at 6 p.m.
