Milford Exempted Village School District Superintendent John Spieser announced his retirement during the Board of Education meeting on Thursday, August 21, 2025. His retirement will be effective January 1, 2026.
“As I watched my son Jack graduate from UC, my son Charlie begin his second year of orthopedic residency, my wife Ayn continue to pursue her entrepreneurial passions, and my son Will be inducted into the U.S. Navy this summer, I saw my own family step forward into their next chapters. At that moment, I realized my mission was complete with them, just as it feels complete here,” said Superintendent Spieser. “Milford has truly been like another family to me, and I know this district is also ready to take its next steps forward.”
Mr. Spieser has served as Superintendent of Milford Schools for the past five years. His career with the District began in 1994 at the former Junior High School as a teacher, later returning to serve as the District’s Director of Secondary Curriculum before being named Superintendent.
Throughout his time as Superintendent, Mr. Spieser has overseen several key milestones and achievements for the District. He guided Milford Schools through the COVID-19 pandemic and oversaw the construction of the new Milford Middle School, beginning with the passage of the 2021 Bond through to its completion and opening in 2025.
A central focus of his leadership was expanding mental health support for students, including the addition of Mental Health Interventionists in school buildings and the introduction of Circle Tail facility dogs in classrooms to promote student wellbeing.
In collaboration with the Board of Education, Spieser helped shape the Portrait of an Eagle which serves as the District’s vision for student success. This includes preparing our students for their next steps through the District’s focus on the three E’s (Employment, Enlistment, and Enrollment) ensuring all students have the opportunity to succeed in multiple pathways.
“On behalf of the Milford Board of Education, I want to thank Mr. Spieser for his years of service to the district. We appreciate his deep commitment to our students and community, and especially his advocacy for strong public education and fair school funding at the state level,” said Board President Emily Mason. “As a superintendent, he has consistently championed student well-being and educational opportunity; not only here in Milford, but across Ohio.”
The Milford Board of Education will begin the process of selecting a search firm to identify qualified candidates for the position of Superintendent. All candidates must meet the state of Ohio’s superintendent licensure requirements.
Superintendent Spieser will continue to serve in his role through December 2025 and will work closely with District leadership to ensure a smooth transition in leadership.
