Milford Schools’ “Meet Your Coach” series highlights the coaches who lead, mentor and support our student-athletes. Our next feature introduces Matthew Jorden, head coach of the Milford High School Girls Cross Country team.
This season marks Jorden’s 27th year coaching cross country and track and field at Milford. He began coaching at the junior high level while attending college and has since held positions within both the boys’ and girls’ programs. He has served as head coach of the high school girls cross country team since 2017.
A 1999 Milford graduate, Jorden was also a decorated distance runner for the Eagles. He earned eight varsity letters, qualified for the regional meet three times and was named Milford’s Outstanding Senior Male Athlete for the 1998-1999 school year. He still holds the fifth-fastest regular-season time in program history.
Jorden has continued running throughout his adult life, completing three full marathons along with numerous half marathons, 5Ks and sprint triathlons.
During his coaching career, Jorden has led three conference championship teams and coached Milford’s girls cross country team to consecutive state appearances in 2024 and 2025. He has also coached multiple individual state qualifiers in both cross country and track and field.
Jorden was named Fort Ancient Valley Conference Coach of the Year in 2008 and Eastern Cincinnati Conference Coach of the Year in 2024 and 2025. He was also recognized as The Cincinnati Enquirer’s Division I Coach of the Year in 2025.
For Jorden, coaching at Milford provides an opportunity to continue the tradition of excellence and discipline he experienced as a student-athlete.
