Milford Schools Receives Long Sought Approval for Traffic Light at 131 and Eagles Way

Oct 4, 2023
Thank you ODOT and Community Partners

Joint Press Release

Milford Exempted Village Schools and Miami Township Police Department are excited to announce that the long requested traffic light at the intersection of 131 and Eagles Way has been approved by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT). It can take 2-3 years for installation to be complete. Implementation planning will begin immediately.

Milford Schools and its partners, including Miami Township Police Department and the Miami Township Administration, have been working with ODOT for a decade to have a light installed at this location. The construction of the new Middle School, which will be complete for the 2025-2026 school year, and accompanying addition of approximately 500 students to the secondary campus makes the light more important than ever.

John Spieser, Superintendent of Milford Schools said, “We are incredibly grateful to ODOT for granting our request, and for the support of community partners and advocates such as Miami Township Police and Administration, and State Representative Jean Schmidt. We have long believed that a light at Eagles Way and 131 is imperative to keeping our students, staff and families safe as they enter and exit campus. We are excited to get started on planning and implementation.” Superintendent Spieser continued, “Although we cannot make any guarantees at this time given the lengthy process, our hope is to have the light in place by the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year in conjunction with completion of the Middle School.”

Miami Township Police Chief Mike Mills stated, “Never give up on something you believe in! Miami Township along with Milford Schools have been uncompromising advocates for a traffic light at Eagles Way for over a decade to increase safety.  We want to acknowledge our partners at the school district, State Representative Jean Schmidt, and the Miami Township Officials for their support in this long journey.”
