At its meeting last week, the Milford Board of Education approved a proclamation recognizing Milford High School as a Purple Heart High School. As a Purple Heart school, Milford honors the service and sacrifice of those soldiers wounded or killed while serving our country.

The effort to designate Milford as a Purple Heart School was led by Milford High School social studies teacher Greg Rose. Mr. Rose has also reached out to the City of Milford to become a Purple Heart City.

“We feel that we have an obligation to the community of Milford and the Milford School District to honor our veterans and their sacrifice,” Mr. Rose said. “Designating Milford High School as a Purple Heart School is just one way that we can do that. This is important to model for our students and to build an expectation for our community.”

In addition to a plaque and a Purple Heart banner for the high school, signs will be posted in the parking lot to reserve spots for Purple Heart recipients.

Pictured are the four members of the local chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart present at the meeting. L-R: Paul Coates, Jerry Johnson, Richard Hebenstreit, and Dan Hof. Dan Hof is the Chapter Commander for Chapter 156, Greg Rose, and Nancy House, Superintendent.

Thank you, Mr. Rose for your efforts to honor our veterans
