Milford Senior Named National Merit Semifinalist

Posted on: September 9, 2015

Milford is proud to announce that senior Amelia Pittman has qualified as a National Merit Semifinalist. Amelia earned this distinction based upon her PSAT score taken during her junior year. Less than 1% of high school seniors in the nation are named semifinalists. There are only 603 semifinalists in Ohio and 115 in the Cincinnati area.

“We proudly recognize one of our finest scholars on being named a National Merit Semifinalist.Congratulations to Amelia and her family,” said MHS Principal, Josh Kauffman.

MHS administrators, Mr. Kauffman and Mr. Willson, and Counselors Liz Emmons and Michelle Dolezal, gathered on September 9 to present Amelia with a certificate and congratulate her on this awesome accomplishment.

Amelia is among approximately 16,000 Semifinalists in the 61st annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth about $32 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and more than half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
